The very best
of Benalmadena
Located just 20 kilometers from Malaga, Benalmadena is one of the Costa del Sol’s premier destinations for family tourism. The town is divided into three distinct areas: Benalmadena Pueblo, Benalmadena Costa, and Arroyo de la Miel. Among its top attractions is the award-winning marina, which provides an extensive range of services and amenities. Did you know the town’s name originates from the Arabic “Ibn al-Madin,” meaning “sons of the mines”?
Benalmadena Travel Tips
CHOOSE YOUR DATES
Benalmadena is a popular tourist destination throughout the year. If you want to avoid crowded beaches, rule out July and August. June and October are sunny months and much quieter. In winter you will also enjoy many bright days and mild temperatures. More affordable prices too.
THREE URBAN CENTERS. The municipality of Benalmadena is made up of three well-differentiated urban centers. Benalmadena Pueblo is the old town, of Muslim origin, and with the physiognomy of the typical Andalusian white village. Arroyo de la Miel, is the intermediate zone between the mountains and the coast, where most of the population lives. Benalmadena Costa, is the coastal strip, where almost all hotels and resorts are located, as well as the famous marina.
HOW TO GET. Benalmadena is 13 km from Malaga Airport (18-20 minutes by car). Although the municipality has two commuter train stations (Arroyo de la Miel and Torremuelle) that connect with Málaga María Zambrano train station, the most comfortable transfer is probably by car, at least if you carry luggage. A taxi from Malaga to Benalmádena Costa costs € 25 approx.
FROM THERE Benalmadena has an excellent location to visit other touristic destinations on the Western Costa del Sol (such as Marbella, Estepona or Fuengirola), Gibraltar, and even other “must visit” cities in Andalusia such as Cordoba, Granada or Seville. Malaga city and its wide cultural offer are a stone’s throw away.
