The very best
of Cordoba

Qurtuba, the Islamic Cordoba, was the heart of Islamic civilization in Al-Ándalus  and the capital of the Umayyad Caliphate. From 756 to 1010, it flourished for centuries, becoming the most cultured, sophisticated, and splendid city in Europe and, along with Baghdad, the main center of knowledge in the Islamic world. The legacy of Qurtuba is still alive in the streets, buildings, and culture of modern Cordoba, making it an essential destination for Muslims around the world. As a Muslim-friendly city, you will find there restaurants and accommodations for a comfortable and rewarding travel experience.

Cordoba Travel Tips

CHOOSE YOUR DATES

Cordoba is an impressive city at any time of the year, although in July and August temperatures can reach 40ºC. Then you will find better prices in hotels. Good prices also from November to March, except on special dates (Christmas, etc …). In spring the city is simply spectacular and perfumed, but you will also find more visitors and higher prices.

HOW TO GET

Córdoba, nestled in the heart of Andalusia, is easily accessible despite not having its own airport. Here’s how you can reach this wonderful city:

By Train. Cordoba is well-connected by Spain’s high-speed AVE train network, making it one of the most convenient ways to travel.  You will need about two hours to get there from Madrid, 45 minutes from Seville or 1 hour from Malaga. Cordoba Central station is located near the city center, allowing you to start exploring almost immediately upon arrival.

By Road. Driving to Cordoba is another great option, especially if you wish to explore the surrounding Andalusian countryside or visit nearby towns like Priego or Almodóvar del Río. The city is connected by major highways, including the A-4 (connecting Madrid and Seville) and the A-45 (linking Malaga). Ample parking facilities are available both in and around the city. Keep in mind that much of the historic center is pedestrian-only, so you’ll need to park your car and explore these areas on foot. Most of Córdoba’s top attractions, including its iconic landmarks, are located within this walkable zone, making it easy to immerse yourself in the city’s rich history and culture.

FROM THERE  After discovering Córdoba, where we recommend spending at least a couple of days to fully appreciate its rich Islamic heritage, consider exploring other nearby destinations. Just 45 minutes by train, Seville offers the magnificent Alcázar and the Giralda, both echoes of Andalusia’s Moorish past. Granada, two hours away, is home to the iconic Alhambra and the historic Albayzín district, celebrating the legacy of Al-Andalus. For a coastal experience, Málaga, less than two hours by train, features the Alcazaba and Gibralfaro Castle, both steeped in Islamic history. Córdoba serves as the perfect base for exploring Andalusia’s rich cultural heritage.
