This nice mountainous region has a special significance for Muslims. After the fall of the Nasrid Kingdom, a great part of the population of Granada retreated to this area. As well as the last Nasrid king before going into exile. First the Muslims and then the Moriscos who took refuge here revolted against the new rulers. Centuries later, new Muslims also chose these fertile lands with small white villages.

Our tip: From Orgiva, the road that goes up to the heart of the Alpujarra is winding, with some very sharp curves. You must drive very carefully. If you tend to get dizzy, take precautions. In winter, you should be extremely cautious.&nbsp,Sometimes these roads are closed to traffic due to storms of heavy rain or snow.
