Old minarets

Plaza de San Juan, 4, 14003 Cordoba, Spain

Rating: 4,5

(210 reviews)
Of the more than 700 mosques that may have once existed in Islamic Cordoba (sources vary considerably—some cite as few as 400, while others claim as many as 1.300), only the Great Mosque remains. A handful of minarets were incorporated into churches or other Christian buildings. Among these, only the minaret of San Juan's Church has been preserved almost miraculously intact since the 10th century. It has truly withstood the test of time and changing circumstances.
